High Season in the Caribbean: How to Secure Your Jet When Everyone Wants to Fly

There are weeks of the year when half the world decides to fly to the same paradise at the same time. In the Caribbean, planning ahead isn't a luxury: it's the difference between flying when you want and flying when you can.

The Caribbean runs on two clocks. One is the weather's; the other, demand's. Understanding both is what lets you secure the right aircraft on the right dates, especially when availability tightens.

The real calendar

High season runs from December to April, when the weather is dry and mild and the northern hemisphere escapes the cold. Christmas, New Year and Easter week are the absolute peaks. Running alongside is the Atlantic hurricane season, officially from June 1 to November 30, with the most activity between August and October. Both shape when and how you fly.

Why it saturates (and what it means for you)

At the peaks it isn't only hotels that fill: so do the available fleet, the crews and the slots at the FBOs. An aircraft that in low season would be ready on short notice can, at Christmas, be committed weeks ahead. The consequence is simple: whoever books late chooses from what's left, not from what they want.
How to plan ahead

How to plan ahead

• Book weeks ahead at the peaks - Christmas, New Year and Easter week close first.

• Give flexibility where you can - a one-day margin or an alternate FBO opens options when the main one is full.

• Ask about empty legs - if your dates line up with a repositioning, you can fly more efficiently.

• Work with an operator based in the region - a hub like Cancún means fleet nearby and less repositioning on the busiest days.

The flip side: summer and fall

Outside the peaks, the Caribbean changes character. Between late spring and fall there's more availability, less crowded destinations and roomier logistics. With an eye on the forecast, and with the flexibility that flying private gives to move a flight ahead of weather, it's an underrated season for anyone who values space and calm.
