VESTA DESTINATIONS
Cancún: One Arrival, an Entire Coast
From the air, the coast announces itself before the city does: a band of water shifting from turquoise to deep blue within a few meters. Cancún tends to be read as the end point of a trip, when it works better as the start of one. From its airport (MMUN), one of the best-connected in Latin America, an entire coastline opens up within a few hours' reach.
To the south begins the Riviera Maya: Playa del Carmen and its Quinta Avenida, the cenotes inland (freshwater rivers hidden beneath the jungle) and Tulum, which since late 2023 has had its own international airport, putting you almost at the sand. A little farther on, Chichén Itzá is a reminder that this stretch of Mexico was the center of the Maya world long before it was a beach destination.
Off the coast lie the islands. Isla Mujeres, a short boat ride away, for a day of still water. And Holbox to the north, car-free and paved in sand, where between May and September the whale sharks swim: the largest fish in the sea, and entirely harmless.
For Vesta, Cancún is more than one destination on a list: it is home base. That shows in the details. Knowing the real travel times between the private terminal and each hotel, knowing when the highway backs up, having transfers to Tulum or to a private dock already solved. Proximity stops being a brochure line and becomes logistics already walked.
The greatest advantage of arriving privately on this coast is the one that defines it: variety within reach. A family can split the week between beach, cenotes and ruins without stringing together endless transfers. And anyone who simply wants to switch off can land in the morning and have their feet in the sand before noon.

When to fly to the Mexican Caribbean
Climate sets the best time to visit. The dry season, from November to April, brings the most stable days and is the favorite for sun-and-beach getaways. Between May and September the heat rises, along with the chance of brief rains, but it is also when the whale sharks reach the waters off Holbox. The Caribbean hurricane season runs from June to November, most likely between August and October; flying privately helps you work around it, since you can move a departure up or around the forecast, free of the constraints of a commercial ticket.
Getting there and getting around
Most private flights to the area land at Cancún International Airport (MMUN), which has FBO terminals for executive aviation. Since late 2023, Tulum has had its
own international airport, bringing the southern Riviera Maya closer; and Cozumel (MMCZ) is another option for those heading to the island.
Ground transfers are short for such a spread-out coast: Cancún to Playa del Carmen takes about an hour by road, and Tulum close to two. The islands are reached by sea: Isla Mujeres is a short boat ride away, and Holbox is reached by ferry from Chiquilá. Flying privately, many of these connections are arranged from the executive ramp itself.
As for the aircraft, the route decides: from Mexico or the central and southern United States, a light or midsize jet is usually enough; for farther origins, the West Coast, South America or Europe, a longer-range aircraft is the better fit.
Frequently asked questions
Which airport do private flights to Cancún use?
Mainly Cancún International Airport (MMUN), which has FBO terminals for private aviation. Tulum (with its own airport since 2023) and Cozumel (MMCZ) are alternatives depending on the final destination.
Can you fly directly to Tulum?
Yes. Since late 2023 Tulum has had its own international airport, allowing you to arrive almost at the sand without the ground transfer from Cancún.
How long does it take from Cancún to Tulum or Playa del Carmen?
By road, about an hour to Playa del Carmen and close to two to Tulum. Flying directly to Tulum reduces that time considerably.
When is the best time to fly to Cancún?
The dry season, November to April, offers the best weather. Summer brings heat and the whale-shark season off Holbox; hurricane season runs June to November, peaking August to October.
What type of aircraft suits this route?
It depends on the origin: a light or midsize jet for trips from Mexico or the central-southern United States, and a longer-range aircraft for farther origins. When your next trip begins in the Mexican Caribbean, Vesta Jets takes you straight to Cancún, and to everything close by.
